It all started when…
Emily started Mottram Architecture in 2009 when the market was terrible and it was considered gainfully unemployed to be an Architect. She is an architect, building science educator, and dog mom who loves the outdoors and a great book in a cozy chair on a rainy afternoon.
Sara joined the Mottram Architecture team after relocating to Freeport, Maine with her husband and two-year-old daughter. She is passionate about the built world and preserving our planet for her daughter’s generation. Sara graduated from the University of California Santa Cruz, with a combined degree in Environmental Studies and Biology, before going on to study Interior Architecture and Design at UC Berkeley Extension. She has more than 10 years of design experience; working closely with contractors and artisans to help bring clients’ visions to life.
Jim Robbins - Architect
Jim met Emily more than twenty years ago when they both worked in the same small architectural firm in Portland. In the intervening years, they each pursued different professional goals, crossing paths on many occasions. Their paths finally converged when Jim joined the Mottram Architecture team in 2020 as a lead architect. He was born and raised in Maine and received his architectural training and licensure in Wisconsin. After working for several years at large firms in Milwaukee, he moved back to Maine to be closer to family and to pursue a practice in residential design. He has over thirty years of professional experience. His work is informed by Maine vernacular architecture, rooted in local forms, materials and traditions. He enjoys the challenge of designing houses that are responsive to the specifics of site and owners’ individual needs. Mottram Architecture allows him to add innovative building science construction strategies to the mix. Jim lives in Cape Elizabeth with his wife, Natalie, and a new puppy named Beau. He enjoys running, hiking, cooking, and particularly spending time with friends and family.
Frank Mottram - Project Managment / Production
Frank joined the Mottram Architecture team in 2022 after 18 years in the retail construction industry. He has a degree in mechanical engineering and his attention to detail is ideally suited for BIM modeling and production for the team.
Daniel Brodhead - Production / Design
Daniel is joining Mottram Architecture after graduating from SMCC's Architectural Design program. Originally a Vermonter, Daniel moved to Maine at 18 and has lived here ever since. His passion is to explore the intersection of New England architecture, rural community and sustainable design. Daniel also has a background in theatrical design. He earned a BA in Theater from Bates College and spent 10 years working behind the stage before coming to Architecture. His creative eye brings life to his 3D models and renderings.
