The Red Barn Home was inspired by two lovely individuals who were looking to downsize as they moved into retirement. The property overlooks a pasture and since the new home would be in view of the existing home, they loved the idea of a barn. So here is a little more on the Red Barn Home
Context: The couple purchased their original home as a renovation and created a beautiful and spacious home overlooking a horse pasture where they would raise their four children. Now that all of their children are grown and out of the house, they were looking to downsize. But they loved their location and decided to create a barn style home on their existing property and sell the main house.
Conclusion: The barn home needed to accommodate a first floor bedroom, 2 guest bedrooms, a craft room and a den. It needed to have an open kitchen and dining area to accommodate their growing family, and a spacious living room for gathering while remaining cozy for everyday life. Although the exterior of the home looks like a barn with a wing that acts as a 3-car garage, the interior of the home is very classic in style. To maximize every inch of space, there are no soaring cathedral ceilings and the rooms on the second floor feel spacious as they push out into the eaves. This home could technically be listed as a 5-bedroom, 2.5 bath home at a story and a half with approximately 2,500 square feet of living space. With a walk out basement you could finish off more square footage on the lower level, but every square foot of this house was maximized to meet the needs of this homeowner.
