What We Stand For:

Our mission statement: To bring super insulated, zero energy, and zero energy ready homes to the marketplace in a soulful and creative way. One of a kind, uniquely designed, positively solar.

Mottram Architecture is a full service architecture firm specializing in energy efficient design and construction.  We offer planning, programming and consulting services, as well as schematic design, design development, construction documents, construction administration and interior architecture.  We also offer energy consulting services.  If you are looking for an Energy Star Certification, HERS Rating, or just a simple energy audit we would love to help you out.  We are based in Maine, but Emily is also registered in Pennsylvania and Texas.  We started out with cold climate design, but doing energy consulting across the US has expanded our knowledge in several other climates and specialties.

We firmly believe in integrated design and look at everything from water consumption, energy consumption, building envelop, orientation, and function.  We have discovered, looking back through our portfolio, that we have a certain fondness for that little old farmhouse, but what we really want to do is create or configure your space so that it envelops and enhances your own personal life.  Many homes are beautiful, but all homes should provide form and function that inspires the homeowner and requires less effort to maintain.

Emily Mottam has been  a registered architect in Maine since 2009.  Her energy certifications include HERS Rater, BPI Building Analyst, and LEED AP and she recently completed the Passive House course and is studying for the exam to be a Certified Passive House Designer.  Emily feels strongly about community development Emily served on the Auburn Planning Board for several years prior to moving from Auburn. She also works with Community Concepts on their Self-Help Homeownership Opportunity Program. For the first time in 2013 Emily participated in the 3 day, 50 mile MS Challenge Walk, a cause she is dedicated to and passionate about.

Born and raised in Lancaster County Pennsylvania, Emily received her Bachelors of Architecture from The Pennsylvania State University in 2005.  From there she spent 2 years in Washington DC working for a high end residential architecture firm. In 2007 Emily and her future husband moved to Maine to be closer to friends and family.  Always interested in environmental design and construction, Emily pursued these interests working for an architecture firm in Portland Maine and then an energy consulting company in Auburn Maine and most recently doing consulting work for a large scale energy engineering company based in South Carolina.

A passion for functional, yet beautiful space led Emily to start Mottram Architecture and start pursuing design with an emphasis on cold climate building. She felt really strongly that the energy performance of the building was tied directly to the design, creating an integrated whole home approach.

With a heart for location independence and producing great design, Emily helps other to realize the things in their life that matter most!
